Paul McCartney, Rihanna to star at Grammys

Paul McCartney will join Coldplay and Rihanna among the artists playing at next month's Grammys, organizers for the music industry's annual awards show said Thursday.

The former Beatle will take the stage along with the Foo Fighters, Bruno Mars, Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 12.

Iconic US band The Beach Boys announced last month that they expect to appear at the Grammys, ahead of a 50th anniversary reunion tour, although they were not included in the line-up so far put out by Grammy organizers.McCartney, 69, already has 14 Grammy awards from his long career, and is nominated at this year's show for Best Historical Album for "Band On The Run."

British megaband Coldplay and chart-topping diva Rihanna will be playing together for the first time at the 54th edition of the awards fete, which will be hosted by rapper LL Cool J.

The Grammys show traditionally features performances by iconic artists. Last year's show starred Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, Barbra Streisand and Bob Dylan.

The Grammys will also pay special tribute this year to late Apple founder Steve Jobs, Brazil's Antonio Carlos Jobim -- of "Girl from Ipanema" fame -- and US singer Diana Ross.

Lifetime Achievement Awards will be given to the Allman Brothers Band, country crooner Glen Campbell, Jobim, country star George Jones, soul stars the Memphis Horns, Ross and rap trailblazer Gil Scott-Heron, who died last year.

The record, which hits stores on November 16th, has generated little buzz amongst consumers so her label has released a full preview of the songs a week ahead of their usual schedule. Check out the clips below:The production on this LP sounds amazing (as is expected from the world class team of producers commissioned by her label) but as usual her voice sounds atrocious. It is amazing that after 5 albums and multiple tours Rihanna has yet to learn how to maxmise her potential as a vocalist.

Furthermore, with the exception of the occasional insertion of West Indian twang, there is nothing on this record to be as unique as she claimed. In fact, I am sure that Lady GaGa could have performed all of these records with even better results. Rihanna basically applied the noise erupting from her throat to a series of well-crafted beats, added a bit of creole language and expected this album to be in a lane by itself.

However, It will be interesting to see how this album performs. Rihanna is releasing this project in a time when both Taylor Swift and Susan Boyle have records on the market and, as her fans conveniently forget to point out, Rihanna never got a #1 album. It looks like history is about to repeat itself once again and deservedly so.

Rihanna is starting off her 2009 in a big way. The pop singer will perform at an inaugural benefit for President-elect Barack Obama on January 20 and release a new remix album on January 27.

According to People.com, the “Disturbia” hitmaker will lend her star power to the Recording Industry Association of America’s Presidential Inauguration Charity Ball, benefitting Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger-relief organization.

Harley-Davidson is a manufacturer of motorcycles based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin that was started with small plans in 1901 by a 21 year old named William S. Harley. In 1903, Harley enlisted help from his friend Arthur Davidson and Davidson's brother Walter to build a motorcycle strong enough to climb the hills of Milwaukee without using pedals. On September 8, 1904 a Harley-Davidson motorcycle made its first public appearance at State Fair Park in Milwaukee when it was entered in a race and driven by Edward Hildebrand.

The largest manufacturing job for Harley-Davidson came during World War I, while the company was still in its infancy. The United States wanted motorcycles involved in the war effort and asked Harley-Davidson to begin mass-producing bikes for the country. The company produced 20,000 motorcycles for the war effort. Before World War I Harley-Davidson manufactured a handful of motorcycles for the military to use in its border skirmishes with Poncho Villa but did not manufacture as many as they did for World War I.

Harley-Davidson was one of only two motorcycle manufacturing companies to survive the Great Depression in the United States and began supplying the government with motorcycles for use in World War II. During the span of the war Harley-Davidson manufactured over 90,000 motorcycles for the allied forces. Almost 30,000 of the 90,000 manufactured were sent to the Soviet Union under the Lend-Lease program.

During the company's history Harley-Davidson endured periods of tarnished reputations because of movies and relations to motorcycle gangs. 1. Bacterial vaginosis

Bacterial vaginosis (BV) accounts for more than 50% of all vagina related health visits.

The odor is strongest when the discharge is exposed to any alkaline substance and this includes soap and semen, it will therefore be at its strongest and most obvious after cleaning or sex.

2. Yeast

Although yeast infections are probably the most common type of vaginal infection, many women never bother to seek help.

Most simply recover naturally and others treat themselves with anti-fungal vaginal creams available without prescription from the chemist.

Symptoms of yeast infections include:

Vulvar itching combined with irritation in the vagina area and redness.

If the urinary opening becomes inflamed, urination will increase and discomfort will be present. If the infection is severe, the vulva will swell and fine breaks, called fissures occur. This causes vaginal discharges to become thicker and whiter.

Yeast infections are the result of excessive growth of a family of fungi that normally live in any healthy vagina, but when they increase the balance of the vagina is upset and problems occur.

The most common infection is vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC), which is usually caused by a fungus named Candida albicans.

There are two types of VVC:

Uncomplicated, a mild infection that responds to therapy. Or recurrent which, is more severe and often occurs in women who have diabetes or are infected with less treatable forms of yeast, such as Candida glabratia.

Recurrent VVC, normaly occurs more than four times a year and needs a long initial treatment of around two weeks and then a follow-up therapy course for up to 6 months or longer.

Certain factors are common causes such as nylon and Lycra clothing that traps heat and moisture, so be aware of our clothing tips for a healthy vagina we noted earlier.

Other common causes include:

Obesity, pregnancy, diabetes and suppression of the immune system during illnesses, the use of oral contraceptives, and eating excessive amounts of sugars, starch, and yeasts.

If you do have a yeast vaginal infection, your doctor will ordinarily treat you with either prescription or nonprescription antifungal creams and suppositories referred to earlier.

If you have a problem get professional help and you will soon have a healthy vagina. Do not ignore symptoms or think they will go away get help quickly.

3. Trichomoniasis

Trichomoniasis, or "trich," is a sexually transmitted vaginal infection suffered by a huge amount of women worldwide and this runs into tens of millions. While infection with trichomoniasis can be uncomfortable, it is not in anyway a serious threat to overall health.

The symptoms are normally vulvar and vaginal burning and itching. The burning is normally at its height after intercourse.

In addition, there may be vulvar swelling and frequent and uncomfortable urination. There is a heavy vaginal discharge, usually yellowish or green, which may or may not have an offensive smell.

The trichomonad is a minute parasite. It has three tails at its narrow end and swims with them and the white blood cells of the body follow.

These blood cells literally chase down the trichomonad and kill it by eating it.

Symptoms occur only when the body's natural defense are swamped by with sheer number of reproducing trichomonads and the white blood cells cannot cope.

Trichomoniasis is usually easily diagnosed and antibiotic treatment cures it in the majority of cases.

The vagina has its own self regulating cleaning system so therefore making it a body part cleaner than the mouth or the orifice down below (rectum) Just because the vagina smells does not dictate that a person is dirty, the vagina contains many bacteria types e.g. good and bad. Lactobacilli the good bacteria has its healthy purposes where it helps prevent all bad bacteria interfering with the female reproductive system.

A healthy vagina normally has a slightly sweet pungent odour, however, if of a stronger pungency (fishy odour) then this is usually a sign that there has been a disturbance in bacteria’s where the bad bacteria has finally upset the balance therefore resulting in the lactobacilli not able to carry out prevention. There are several factors which can disturb the balance in the vagina and lead to the vaginal condition called bacterial vaginosis.

Poor hygiene – is most definitely one reason why offensive smells develop. It is not necessary to scrub the private parts as you would like cleaning a floor, the genital area is delicate and sensitive so be careful even when using perfumed soaps/sprays. Cleansing with water is fine because scented products can cause thrush.

Illness – some conditions are somewhat unavoidable, a pelvic Infection can lead to vaginosis. Bacteria is known to flourish if Candida is diagnosed because of the amount of alkaline present of which is more known to develop through a poor diet, oral contraceptives and stress

By preventing conditions which affect the vagina can save you money i.e. unnecessary products. Douching is neither a necessary process nor is it recommended because it forces water or other solutions into the vaginal orifice to wash away discharge or menstrual blood. Whether the vagina is only a "titchy itchy" it can still mean something is wrong. Nonetheless the itch does not have to be something of a serious nature either. A vaginal itch can be caused by simple things like being allergic to the material of your underwear or that your jeans maybe too tight. Should the itch be one that has you aggressively clawing away at the skin near to tearing the flesh, and you know the cause is not that of cloth or tightness then you will have to have yourself checked over by your doctor? Vaginal itching is not uncommon nor are the reasons for the itch occurring and that being more times than not an infection.

Most common vaginal infection that includes itching and burning is thrush. It also causes the vagina/vulva to swell along with soreness.

Thrush is referred to as a yeast infection or candidiasis which is an overgrowth of yeast that brings a variety of nasty symptoms. Although the infection can be treated, it is known to come back, if this be the case in your case then seek medical help as it could be something more serious. We all have yeast in our bodies and if grows out of control, then thrush is usually the result.

All genders young and old carry yeast in and on their bodies without any problems. Yeast is notably known living in the intestines, vagina, mouth and skin. This may not sound healthy but the body has 'friendly' bacteria which help keep yeast levels low.

Soreness, swelling and redness are primary symptoms if delicate tissue of the vagina is infected. Thrush not only causes a stinging sensation when peeing but is painful too. The sting is due to inflamed tissues in the vagina. It is painful to have sex, sexual intercourse should not even be considered until the infection is cleared. Movement i.e. sitting and walking can because you pain. All women have a vaginal discharge and know what the norm is, but if thrush is present it can show up white and thick (not all the time) with a strong smell of yeast and like yoghurt to look at. It can also be watery with a light smell. Yeast thrives in warm, moist locations with low acidity and an ample supply of sugar.

However, the reality is that this sexual freedom also carries with it the very real threat of sexually transmitted disease. Because not all sexually transmitted diseases are curable, it is essential to take steps to avoid them.

A sexually transmitted disease or STD is actually a combination of several different conditions that are all acquired through sexual intercourse. AIDS, a disease caused by the HIV virus, is the most serious of the sexually transmitted diseases and, despite some progress in recent years, is still incurable and is usually fatal.

Some of the other problematic sexually transmitted diseases's include syphilis, gonorrhea, genital herpes, and non specific urethritis. There are also a few other diseases such as pubic lice, genital warts, trichomoniasis, and monilia that are classed as STDs but are of a less serious nature.

The incidence of sexually transmitted diseases has increased over time and today there are more recorded cases than at any time in the past three decades. This is because people, especially young people, feel that the use of contraception allows more sexual freedom and has led to a change in the views of sexual behaviour. It is also a fact that this sexual freedom has led to people becoming sexually active at an increasingly younger age. However, not all contraception can stop the spread of infections caught during sexual intercourse.

Syphilis
One of the most serious sexually transmitted diseases's is syphilis which is highly infectious and, if it remains untreated, can result in death. Even if it is not fatal, the probability of disability is high.

Not only can the syphilis bacteria be contracted during sexual intercourse, but it can also be passed to the unborn child of an infected mother. The baby is then born with a condition known as congenital syphilis. This is quite uncommon in this era as all pregnant women undergo routine blood testing.

The incubation period for syphilis varies. The first symptoms can also vary, thus making early diagnosis difficult. Usually, the first symptom is a painless ulcer around the genital area, the anus, or the mouth. Because this ulcer heals without any medical intervention, the person doesn't normally do anything about it, thinking that it is nothing important.

If this disease is not treated early, it is likely to result in death. It is therefore essential that, if a person believes he or she may have been in contact with an infected person, that medical advice is obtained immediately.

Gonorrhea
Another serious and very common disease contracted by sexual intercourse is gonorrhea. Often, the female is unaware that she is infected because around eighty percent have no symptoms. Other women suffer from dysuria (pain while urinating) or from lower abdominal pain. This is because it involves the fallopian tubes and can therefore lead to sterility.

The disease is more obvious for the male, resulting in dysuria followed by a discharge from the penis. This occurs within a week of contracting the infection. Gonorrhea in the male is usually confirmed by laboratory testing of the discharge.

A dose of penicillin is the normal treatment for gonorrhea in both male and female sufferers. It is also vital that the person abstain from alcohol and from sexual intercourse for a period of several weeks. Although the treatment relieves the symptoms quickly, it is essential that the person continues to have medical maintenance to ensure that the cure is complete. A responsible person should inform any sexual partners of their infection so that they may be examined and treated if necessary.

NSU

The most common sexually transmitted disease is nonspecific urethritis or NSU which continues to increase at an remarkable rate. Many cases of NSU are caused by the Chlamydia germ but not all. NSU is an inflammation of the urethra and has no identifiable cause.

Prevention

Obviously, the best way to avoid sexually transmitted diseases is by abstinence or monogamy. However, if considering sex with a new partner, it would be wise to use a condom until you are sure about the person. The hair growth cycle is in three stages; the Anagen phase, the Catagen phase and the Telogen phase. The first stage called the anagen phase is the phase of active hair growth. In This phase hair grows from the hair follicle (these are the tiny holes that hair can be seen growing from) on average 0.33 mm/per day, which is about 10.5mm ( or approximately 1cm) per month. The length of the anagen phase varies from 2-7 years, and between 80-90% of hair on the hair on the scalp is in the anagen phase at any one time (there are over one hundred thousand hairs on the scalp) After the growing phase the follicle then enters the catagen phase. This phase lasts for approximately two weeks. Approximately 1% of hair on the scalp is in this phase at any one time. The final stage is the Telogen Phase. This is the resting phase of the growth cycle, and lasts for approximately three to four months. When the resting stage is complete the cycle begins again. As the new hair grows up the follicle it pushes out the old telogen hair. Everyday about 100 scalp hairs are shed per day, these are old telogen hairs.

Ok now the science is over let me clarify a few things. If your anagen phase is only a few years long the likely hood of your hair sweeping the floor is very slim, if however your anagen phase hair growth is years long up to 7 years, then you could have potentially very long hair (as I mentioned earlier the length to which your hair grows is genetic, so if you have hair that can grow below your shoulders you have inherited genes that allow your hair to grow for a good number of years in the anagen phase). But what about people, who have dreads/locks, how is it that their hair can grow so long? I hear you ask. Well the long and short of it, is the fact that the hair that should have dropped out in the telogen phase can't as it is waxed together with the new hair from the anagen phase. So you get hair that should have naturally fallen out being stuck to new hair, which makes it seem like the person could have hair that has a long anagen phase growth cycle.

Hair grows in recurring cycles, with each cycle composed of three phases - anagen, catagen and telogen. The anagen phase is also referred to as the growth phase. About 85 to 90% of all the hairs in our heads are in this phase at one time. This part of the growth cycle lasts from 2 to 6 years and can continue for up to 8 years.

Once the hair reaches its maximum length in the anagen phase, the catagen phase of the growth cycle begins. This is a short phase, lasting only about 1 to 2 weeks. The catagen phase is also referred to as the transitional phase, when the cycle reaches the regressive stage and hair growth slows down. The follicle shrinks in size and the base begins to break down.

The telogen phase of the growth cycle is also known as the resting phase, when growth stops completely. This is the part where the follicle becomes degraded. This cycle lasts for about 6 weeks. Some hair may fall out but some stay in the follicle. Near the end of the telogen phase, new hair begins to form and grow. If the old hair is still attached, it is forced out and falls off the head. About 10% of our hair are in the telogen phase.

Hair growth cycle and hair loss

To understand hair loss, it is important that we know the nature of the cycle of hair growth. It is normal for people to lose 50 to 100 hairs a day. When this happens, you are probably in the telogen phase. You'll probably find these lost strands in your brush, comb or on your shower floor. This is normal and there is no need to worry because they will be replaced by new growth.

It is only when you're losing more and are noticing rapid thinning that you should be concerned. These are signs that your hair growth is not fast enough to replace lost strands and there is a possibility that your normal hair cycle has been disrupted.

Hair grows from the follicles which are found in the top layer (epidermis) of the skin. It is made of keratin, a form of protein, the same component of the epidermis, fingernails and toe nails. The cycle may also be affected by skin diseases of the scalp, trauma or stress.

Certain drugs can also disrupt normal growth, including anti-depressants, hypertension drugs, retinoids and birth control pills. The birth of a baby may also contribute to hair loss, along with diseases such as lupus, diabetes and HIV/AIDS. Men and women with eating disorders or undergoing severe dieting are also susceptible to this condition.

It is interesting to note that hair growth is not indicated in the human embryo in its initial stages. Hair growth only becomes apparent when hair follicles begin to appear in the early stages of the embryo's development, before it assumes a human form in the mother's womb. Evidence of hair growth begins to appear when the fetus is approximately 9 weeks old. By 9 months, the human fetus already has every hair follicle he/she will ever have.

Kawasaki Motorbikes - History and Tradition

Established as Kawasaki Aircraft Company to primarily produce components and parts from aeroplanes, Kawasaki began their first venture into the world of motorcycles in 1949 with a motorbike engine. Taking three years to develop and complete, it was mass manufactured a year later as a 148cc engine, featuring a four stroke, single cylinder and had a maximum power output of 4 PS.

Twelve months on in 1954, the first fully complete motorbike was manufactured under Meihatsu, a part of the larger Kawasaki Aircraft Company. However, it took six years for the company to build a dedicated company to motorbikes and in 1960, with the opening imminent, the company bought Meguro Motorcycles and began mass producing motorbikes immediately.

Over the years, Kawasaki has entered teams into various racing contests, with their first success coming in 1969 when Dave Simmonds won the 125cc World Championship.

Shadowing over all other motorbike teams throughout the mid-1970's to the mid-1980's, Kawasaki reaped medal upon medal in various classes and firmly established themselves in the racing scene with their world class motorbikes.

After several years of racing with different teams and riders, in 2007 Kawasaki created a subsidiary company of Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Kawasaki Motors Racing to take care of all racing activities that Kawasaki are involved in - primarily the MotoGP team.

Only winners of one Superbike World Championship (in 1993), whilst Reg Pridmore and Eddie Lawson are credible mentions, two of Kawasaki's most famous riders are definitely Anton Mang and Kork Ballington. Mang won several World Championships for Kawasaki in the early 1980's in the 250cc and 350cc categories whilst Ballington was Mang's predecessor, winning World Championships in both 1978 and 1979, for both the 250cc and 350cc categories.

Whilst Mang and Ballington are famous for riding Kawasaki motorbikes, Kawasaki's greatest winner and most popular rider is definitely ride Doug Chandler. The American rider raced for Kawasaki throughout the 1990's and early 2000's, winning three AMA Superbike Championship's throughout his time - the first in 1990, the second in 1996 and the final in 1997. One of only four riders to win the AMA Grand Slam - a mile, half-mile, short track, TT and road race - Chandler was inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 2006.

As well as racing bikes, Kawasaki have produced some fantastic on-road bikes. From the early 1990's KSE500 to the popular KZ900, Kawasaki's most famous bikes are definitely their Ninja range. With just under 20 bikes with the Ninja tag, they are popular amongst all sorts of riders, as there is a bike for all types and competency's of riders. Starting back in the mid 1980's with the Ninja ZXR 750 to the currently massively popular ZZR1400, each bike carries the same, famous Kawasaki characteristics but is individual in its own right. Its also important to mention that due to their very own nature, Kawasaki Motorcycles has always played the role of Maverick in the industry and that a feeling of independence from their main competitors has always been present.

The only issue is finding Kawasaki motorbike insurance - they're so popular and so fast, it's difficult to find a cheap premium to actually get your Kawasaki bike out onto the road.

What does the 'sn' in snood stand for? The 'ood' is presumably hood. Snuggly? Snow?

Anyway. Here's Rihanna, rocking the Eighties by wearing a snood. And looking incredible. The jacket is gorgeous and fits her like a dream, and she's another one who's embraced the comfort and leg-lengthening style of the riding boot.

And talking of trends - which we always do, obv - looks like last season's black-on-black look is still going strong! I mean, take a look at the evidence. In the past few weeks alone we've had Gwen Stefani, Lindsay Lohan, Kate Moss, Eva Longoria, Mary-Kate Olson and, er, Leslie Ash, all mixing their black fabrics. Shocking, I call it.

I wait with bated breath for the pics of be-snooded celebrities to come flooding in. Deeley-boppers will be next, you mark my words.

BRITNEY SPEARS' comeback album BLACKOUT has been named album of the year by French radio station NRJ.
The ceremony, which took place on Saturday (26Jan08) in Cannes, praised the troubled star's latest effort, which fought off competition from Amy Winehouse, Mika, James Blunt and Rihanna.
The awards also saw Justin Timberlake and Avril Lavigne honoured, landing gongs for best International Male and Female respectively.
R&B star Rihanna, who picked up International Song of the Year for Don't Stop The Music, debuted a new shorter hairstyle at the French ceremony.
Winehouse, who was up for International Revelation and International Album, was scheduled to perform at the event - but was unable to honour the appearance after she was admitted to rehab in London on Thursday (24Jan08).

Los Angeles - Britney Spears and Rihanna triumphed at the 2008 NRJ Music Awards on Saturday.

Britney, who has had a tumultuous time since divorcing Kevin Federline and losing custody of her two sons, saw off stiff competition from Rihanna and Amy Winehouse to receive the International Album of the Year prize for her comeback LP Blackout.

Although Rihanna lost out on the album award, her popular dance track Don't Stop the Music was named International Song of the Year at France's most famous music awards ceremony.

The stunning 19-year-old singer showed off her new short hairstyle as she performed her award-winning song at France's Palais des Festivals de Cannes.

SexyBack singer Justin Timberlake won International Male Artist of the Year, while Canadian star Avril Lavigne was crowned International Female Artist of the Year.

Amy Winehouse, who was nominated for International Revelation of the Year and International Album of the Year, was due to perform at the star-studded ceremony but was forced to pull out after entering rehab for drug addiction last week.

Lebanese-born Grace Kelly singer Mika, who wore a shocking pink jacket to the ceremony, picked up the International Revelation of the Year.

Michael Jackson, Celine Dion and Kylie Minogue all received the NRJ Award of Honour for their contribution to music.

Nominees for the NRJ Awards are chosen by French radio station NRJ.

Listeners can then vote online for their favourites.
